Hawthorn sweatshirt tester, a willow & co pattern

Have you heard of Willow & Co? A pattern collective who will be releasing their first pattern collection at 22nd of April. The theme of the collection is Wanderlust, a glamping collection. Perfect for the many camping trips we take. I was selected (yay, thanks Laura!) to test the Hawthorn sweatshirt (by Craftstorming). It is the perfect sweater for those chilly moments in the morning while playing around the caravan (or just to wear all year round). And it comes with a lot of options: pockets, full or half zip, split side seams.

I tested the half zip with split side seams, no pockets in a size 2 for little rascal. I used a black and grey sweatshirt fabric with a contrasting yellow zipper.

When I was printing the pattern, I used the option of just printing the pattern size I needed. Perfect for black and white printing, no extra lines! The tutorial is well written with a lot of pictures to explain every step. Most of the sewing went smooth, though putting in the zipper did require some thought and understanding the construction. Again a pattern test with firsts for me, I never sewed a split side seam or half zip in a sweater before. The tutorial guides you through all the steps and the result is a great sweatshirt with a very neat finish.

As you can see the  size 2 in the test pattern ended up a bit too big for little rascal,  but the pattern comes with a measurements table so next time I'll make some adjustments for the perfect fit. * edit, the length of the body and sleeves is shortened in the  final pattern version, so I probably won't need the measurements table after all*

Happy camping!

  1. I love the contrast of the black and grey with the pops of colour from the zip and twill tape. Those trousers are amazing too! The size you made is a bit shorter in body and arm length than in testing for the age you make so hopefully that will help :) Thanks for all your help with testing.

    1. Thanks Laura, and thanks again for having me test for you! Good to know the final version is shortened a bit in length. I have some stripey sweatshirt fabric that's just screaming Hawthorn :) I edited my post regarding the shortening :)
