High fructose, the Stylo outfits

Outfits for Stylo issue 4, 1 fabric 5 ways sewn by huisje boompje boefjes

Last January I received an email by Jessica and Celina of Stylo asking me to participate in the next issue. I sure did some jumping up and down of excitement that day! (and still can't believe it actually). Yay Stylo! For those of you who haven't heard of this, Stylo is an e-magazine (or should I say i(nspiration)-magazine) with the focus on handmade childrens clothes. The items in the magazine you can recreate yourself with the patterns and fabrics listed.

That means I received a package with a mystery fabric I had to use in the outfit I created. Apart from the assignment the issue has High Fructose as general theme. Think fruit, bold geometric prints and bright colours.

The fabric I was assigned is a beige woven with red crosses. It's fun to work with a fabric I would not normally choose myself and give it my own spin. I knew I wanted to make something for both my boys and there was just enough fabric to make a pair of pants and a button up shirt. I decided to go with some solids and colourblocking to make the outfits complete.

Little rascal's outfit

So let's talk outfits! I started with a pair of Small Fry Skinny Jeans made into shorts for big rascal (pattern Titchy Threads). Unfortunately I made them to small, but I could pass them on to little rascal without any problems. I made a Maxwell Top (pattern Shwin designs) out of the mystery fabric and a Twisted Tank (regular version, pattern by Titchy Threads) underneath to which I added colourblocking and a yellow pocket.

One outfit done, one to go!

Big rascal's outfit

For big rascals pants I chose the Coastal Cargos by Blank Slate patterns. They're made with the mystery fabric. On top another Twisted Tank in a regular version and a Great outdoors Reversible Vest (Peek-a -Boo patterns).

As an accessory I made a Connor's Messenger bag using the free pattern by Punkin patterns.

We were all crosing our fingers for some dry weather, in fact it happened twice that I had the boys dressed in their outfits and ready to go when it started raining and we had to call it off. But we got some sunshine eventually and the boys were really brave (it was still sooooo cold outside) and cooperative. Luckily one photoshoot was enough to get the pictures I needed. The shooting took place at the Eye in Amsterdam North, fantastic architecture right at the waterside.

And now go get ýourself some coffee and take your time to check out Stylo issue 4 and all the fantastic makings! It's 314 pages pure fabulousness!

  1. Fantastic! Both looks are so super cool with all the layers and color-blocking! Plus I love that you stayed true to yourself and don't show your sons' faces, but at the same time managed to get really fun and beautiful pics!

    1. Thanks Annika! I'm so glad you like the outfits and the pics! That's what I was most nervous about, living up to all those gorgeous spreads and still trying to leave their faces out. It's just easier to get good angles when you can photograph faces :) But it was a fantastic ride! (still can't believe I got asked actually)
