Radical Raglan, the S is for Sewing Blog Tour

Today I'm part of the Sewing with Boys blog tour for the release of the S is for Sewing eBook, a nice bundle featuring four patterns, the Radical Raglan, Quadrilateral Tee, Bookworm Blazer and the Looseleaf Knapsack.

Radical Raglan

I chose to sew the Radical Raglan because my boys really can't have enough shirts.

The Radical Raglan is a hooded raglan sweater pattern that comes in a wide size range: 2-14.  It's long sleeved and has fun front pockets. As soon as I saw the design I really liked the added placket, making it different from other raglans. I made the size 4 for my slim 5 year old and the fit is just perfect!

The pattern is very suitable for an intermediate sewing level. The tutorial provides drawings for the different steps but I think experience with sewing knits and plackets makes this project easier and faster to complete. Like many new patterns this one also provides the possibility to print layers, chosing just the sizes you need. I love that!

I did make some adjustments to the original pattern by shortening the sleeves and leaving out the strap that goes across the placket. I also added biastape to the pockets and the hood for a contrasting pop of colour. The result is a nice summer sweater but I'm sure I'll be making a couple of long sleeved ones for fall and winter as well.

Fabrics by Joyfits

The green striped sweatshirt fabric, the white jersey and blue knit biastape are from Joyfits, I chose them as part of the gift certificate I won with this Nosh Rowan Tee  #parissewsocial making.

Maybe you noticed this too but I just realised I'm getting more bold and colourful in my fabric choices lately. It must be summer!
The diagonal stripes on this one  really gave me a headache because I wanted them to line up at the sides and in the hood. I succeeded at the sides but the hood was just impossible. Oh well, can't win them all and I'm loving the result!

    1. Ha, dit is niet het elastische band maar jersey en die bevalt prima! Elastisch band heb ik ook wel eens gehad maar ben daar niet zo'n groot fan van, werd wat rommelig, maar dat kan ook heel goed aan mij liggen :)
