Fabulous fall Cappuccino dress

Hey, today I would like to share some fall orientated me sewing with you all. When Cindy Parett approached me and asked if I would like to participate in her Sew long Summer series I was immediately drawn to the fabulous fall category. A perfect trigger to get started on some fall items for my own wardrobe.

I decided to finally make a cappucino dress (pattern by Liesl+Co). I have this pattern for ages but somehow never sewed it up. I chose to make the dress with short sleeves so I can still wear it if we happen to end up with and indian summer this fall season (fingers crossed).

The sewing went smoothly, it's an easy pattern, quick to sew because of the lack of zippers and buttons. The sizing diagram worked correct for me. I made a size 6 and it fits perfectly. I did make an alteration to the length though. Being typically Dutch I needed 8 additional centimeters to the bottom.

Well the sewing went smooth, the fabric cutting is another story. When you look at the dress it's obvious that I encountered a problem. I just didn't have enough fabric and really wanted to finish this instead of searching for more. Yep, impatient, I know.
I made the front panel into two separate panels, this way I could almost fit the pieces on my fabric. Yep almost, I needed to make an additional cut, so I ended up with my front panel consisting out of 3 pieces. And they don't match. Luckily this fabric has a busy print, so it doesn't look completely off. Right? Please say I'm right ;) Oh well, I'll wear it anyway.

All in all I'm still pretty pleased with my dress. I think I'll be sewing up a cappuccino tunic for this fall as well. I have some Atelier Brunette fabric that should be perfect. Nice and flowy.

Thanks for the opportunity Cindy! And also a special thanks to my little 3 year old photographer.

  2. I'm so glad you made this up for Fabulous Fall week. Yours is by far the cutest version I've seen of this pattern. The busy print not only hides the extra piecing at the front but really makes a stunning dress.
