Holiday crafting, DIY fireplace and more

I know most of the blogging world is already prepping for Christmas, but here in the Netherlands we first celebrate Sinterklaas on the 5th of December. For the non-Dutch: this is an evening with family, presents, hot chocolate, "erwtensoep" and "pepernoten". In the weeks before the 5th children put their shoes in front of the fireplace before bedtime and get presents or candy from Sinterklaas and his Pieten coming down the chimney.
Since our house is lacking a fireplace that's something I had to fix. I made one out of a big box and stamped bricks on it with a sponge and paint. Added a little paper bunting cut out of magazines, some wood and candles and we're set.

For the Sinterklaas parade I made little rascal a new hat, just like Piet wears. He has outgrown the one from last year. Just cut a large circle (this one is a 45cm diameter), hem it and add elastic and a feather.

  3. You should definitely make one Magda! My kids love it and it was a fun and fast project.
The 5th is Sinterklaas in the Netherlands, after that I'll turn it into a Christmas fireplace with stockings.

    1. I know about your tradition, I think it is so cool. One of my best friends is Dutch, she lives in Tiel and when we were younger she would send me a lot of traditional stuff from your country... I can't forget this letter shapped chocolate which I loved so much!!!
